Ginkgo biloba

What is Ginkgo biloba?

Ginkgo biloba, commonly known as ginkgo, is a herb that supports mental function by aiding in cerebral and peripheral circulation.

The history of Ginkgo biloba

The Ginkgo biloba  tree species have existed on earth for approximately 300 million years. Ginkgo biloba trees can reach heights of 40 metres and trees older than 1,000 years tend to have a circumference of between 10 and 20 metres.1

Although Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest trees on earth, the medicinal properties of the leaf of this herb were only discovered about 40 years ago. Since then, there has been extensive research on the Ginkgo biloba tree in order to identify the health benefits it possesses.2

The specific extract used by Flordis

A specific extract of Ginkgo biloba known as GK501 is combined with a specific extract of Panax ginseng known as G115 in the product Gincosan by Flordis.

GK501 is extracted and formulated using a special quality controlled process that ensures the utmost care is taken in the cultivation, extraction and manufacture in order to ensure consistency from one batch to another.

Ginko biloba: from seed to patient

  • The specific species of herb is carefully chosen.
  • Standardised cultivation and harvesting takes place to provide a reliable phytochemical profile.
  • A number of strict measures are applied to the manufacturing processes, ranging from use of solvents and extraction methods through to packaging, storage and transportation of the final product. These careful controls ensure batch to batch consistency each time.
  • Research and clinical studies take place on the finished product to assess its tolerability and effectiveness. The careful consistency in production ensures that each pack of Gincosan contains the same extract studied in the clinical research.

How it works

Available scientific evidence indicates that the combination of Ginkgo biloba and Panax ginseng (G115®)  has been found to help relieve mental fatigue, support cognitive function (by supporting memory and mental alertness), and assist blood circulation.3-6

Key studies on GK501® and G115®

The Flordis product, Gincosan, contains a specific combination of Ginkgo biloba (GK501®) and Panax ginseng (G115®) extracts. Use of the two in Gincosan is supported by 35 years of research that indicates that together they may have a beneficial effect on cognitive function in adults, specifically with regards to mental alertness and memory. 3-6
