Ginkgo biloba

What is Ginkgo biloba?

Ginkgo biloba is a herb that supports mental function by promoting cerebral and peripheral circulation

The history of Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo biloba trees have lived on earth for approximately 300 million years. Ginkgo biloba trees can reach heights of 40 m and individual trees aged more than 1000 years have a circumference of 10-20 m.1

Although Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest trees on earth, the medicinal properties of the leaf of this herb were only discovered about 40 years ago. There has been extensive research of Ginkgo biloba over the past 40 years identifying benefits derived from its vascular effects.2

The specific extract used by Flordis

A specific extract of Ginkgo biloba known as GK501 is combined with a specific extract of Panax ginseng known as G115 in the product Gincosan by Flordis.

GK501 is extracted and formulated using a special process. This individual and highly technical process helps to ensure a consistent form and amount of Ginkgo biloba is used in every formulation of Gincosan- meaning each final product will contain the same high quality extracts.

Natural medicines can vary considerably depending on how they are produced. Flordis believes it’s the science behind growing, harvesting and processing that delivers the true health benefits of natural medicine.  That’s why in the making of a Flordis medicine, careful attention is applied to plant species and growing methods through to cultivation and harvest, using precise processes to help produce consistent crops. This is continued with extracting and manufacturing of specific ingredients following a series of strict controls to help deliver a consistent medicine from one batch to the next.

It is this specific medicine that is tested in clinical trials. And it’s the same medicine that you receive, which is one of the reasons you can feel good about its effectiveness.  Flordis medicines follow processes where all of the steps involved in the growth and manufacture of the natural medicine are tightly controlled to reduce variability and to help ensure consistency.

The seed to patient journey

  • The specific species of herb is selected
  • Standardised cultivation and harvesting occurs (helping to ensure a consistent phytochemical profile) - followed by harvesting, drying and processing.
  • A series of strict controls are applied to the manufacturing processes - including everything from solvents and extraction methods through to packaging, storage and transportation of the final product - helping to ensure that every single product is consistent (we refer to this as “batch to batch consistency”)
  • Research and clinical studies are conducted on the finished product to validate its tolerability and efficacy.

How it works

Researchers are still investigating exactly how the combination of Ginkgo biloba and Panax ginseng supports physical and mental endurance and performance. Available scientific evidence indicates Gincosan may assist in maintaining normal healthy cognitive function.3-6
