D3-1000 Vitamin D3
Indications
For the management of vitamin D deficiency conditions.
Background
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is the natural active form of vitamin D and is more effective than vitamin D2, the synthetic
form. Very few foods naturally contain vitamin D and regular exposure to sunlight is required for its synthesis by the body. Half of all Australians have low vitamin D levels. Factors associated with vitamin D deficiency include poor kidney and liver function, ageing, pregnancy and smoking.
Function
Vitamin D3 plays an integral role in calcium metabolism and bone health. It helps to maintain and build bones by maintaining blood concentrations of calcium and phosphorous. Vitamin D3 helps to maintain bone density as well as reduce the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as numerous other actions throughout the body.
