The Australian Research Council (ARC) has awarded a highly prestigious ARC Discovery Grant to Swinburne University of Technology for research into healthy ageing with the special extract of Bacopa monnieri, KeenMind® (CDRI 08).
Leading the research will be Professor Con Stough who is the principle investigator of KeenMind studies at Swinburne’s Brain Sciences Institute. The large scale study will use KeenMind in 310 healthy elderly participants for a period of 12 months to determine KeenMind’s role in reducing the cognitive effects of ageing.
Professor Stough has previously conducted two double-blind, placebo-controlled trials on KeenMind. These showed KeenMind to have a strong cognitive enhancing effect in healthy individuals. It was also shown to significantly improve a range of memory and attention measures such as speed of visual information processing, learning rate and memory consolidation and anxiety states compared to placebo.
The ARC Discovery Grant is the second Australian Federal Government grant to be given to a Flordis product. The first was awarded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for clinical research into the usage of Iberogast®.
