The Federal Governments tightening of the regulations covering the Complementary Medicine industry has been welcomed by Flordis Managing Director, Nigel Pollard.

"When implemented, these changes will be good for Australian consumers who will be able to trust the claims made for complementary medicine products", says Mr. Pollard.
The Expert Committee appointed by the Government after the Pan crisis identified that many products on the Australia market do not have the evidence that they are required to in order to support their claims. The Government has accepted the Committee's recommendation to require companies to provide this evidence.
In particular for herbal medicines, where the active ingredients are usually not known, the only way to be certain that a product really works is to prove it in clinical trials. It is no more difficult to prove this for herbal medicines than for any other medicine. For example, Flordis provides only herbal medicines that have been proven to this high level in specific trials conducted using these exact products.
"When the tightening of these regulations is implemented, the benefits will be enormous" Mr. Pollard adds. "Not only will the Public have more confidence in the claims made for complementary medicines, but the health system as a whole will be able to recognise the significant benefits that proven complementary medicines offer over synthetic products".
